Wear Red for Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Church” because it marks the moment when the disciples moved from fear to faithful action, carrying Christ's message into the world. In the United Methodist Church, Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is still alive and active today—bringing courage, unity, wisdom, compassion, and hope to God’s people.

As we celebrate Pentecost in the United Methodist tradition, you may notice the sanctuary filled with red paraments, banners, flowers, and worshippers wearing red clothing. Red is the liturgical color of Pentecost because it symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit that descended upon the disciples in Acts 2. Scripture tells us that “tongues, as of fire,” rested on each of them as the Spirit filled the room and empowered ordinary people to share God’s love in extraordinary ways.

Wearing red is more than a tradition; it is a visible reminder that we are called to be Spirit-filled people who share Christ’s love boldly, serve our neighbors faithfully, and work together for the common good. On Pentecost, we celebrate that God’s Spirit continues to move through each of us, lighting the way for the church and the world.

Monthly Mission Offering: Spirit Lake Ministries

Spirit Lake Ministry Center (SLMC) is a year-round ministry site which works with, and in support of, the peoples of the Spirit Lake Nation. We provide ministry and fellowship opportunities throughout the year for adults, youth, children, and persons with disabilities.

Spirit Lake Ministry Center partners with the Spirit Lake Nation to:

  • Heal emotional, physical, and cultural brokenness to overcome historical trauma

  • Fulfill basic human needs of shelter, food, and safety

  • Provide opportunity for personal and spiritual growth

  • Restore traditions of self-worth and self-sufficiency within the community

  • Build/strengthen positive and productive relationships outside of the community

Visiting teams are invited to provide Vacation Bible School for the local community, or to serve as a work team doing light construction work on our grounds or throughout the reservation. We partner with area organizations to help provide needed renovations to homes, Tribal buildings, and grounds. And while the summer months are always full, and usually spent outside, we also provide opportunities for small work teams to do interior work, or for groups to join us in the fall, winter, or spring months for multi-day retreats. Ready! Set! Grow!

Our June Garden Camp for children age 2 through rising 6th grade is just around the corner! We are getting so excited to dig in and sow happy memories with our young campers! Would you consider helping us make camp a success by donating a craft supply? Ideas for what we need will be blooming on the wall in the parlor. Simply pick a flower of your choice from the parlor wall and return it with the supply.

Thank you for supporting our summer camp!

Peace with Justice Sunday

On Sunday, May 31, we have a special opportunity to come together as a church and take action for peace and justice in our world.

The United Methodist Church has long been committed to transforming the world through acts of peace, reconciliation, and justice. On this Peace with Justice Sunday, we give to support programs that work to reduce conflict, promote fairness, and create lasting change.

This is one of the eight special offers we receive each year for special days set by our denomination’s connectional system.

Half of the gifts given stay right here in our annual conference to support local justice ministries, while the other half funds national and global peace initiatives. Together, we can make a real impact!

Please begin praying about how God might lead you to participate in this important offering.
